Javier Rodriguez graduated from FIU with bachelor degrees in political science and international relations before falling in love with teaching. He has been teaching since 2017 but began teaching AP History courses in 2019. Ever the competitor, he instills in his students a desire not just to do well on their exams for the sake of their academics, but also to be able to rightly claim they're on the better half of a performance band. Accomplishing this has led to a strong focus on pedagogical skill, and Mr. Rodriguez found himself earning a Masters in educational leadership from UCF. After the obstacles presented by the covid lockdowns Mr. Rodriguez' goal evolved to provide that level of instruction outside of his direct classroom through a tutoring program that's aimed to be as affordable as it is effective.
The name comes from the "intelligence service" of ancient Sparta, the Krypteia, which is also a subject of keen interest to many students when it was covered in Mr. Rodriguez' class. The Krypteia would only select from the toughest, most capable, stoic, and intelligent Spartans throughout their formal schooling (the agoge) to serve, and as such it's an elite group focused on the academic capability of its members as well as their ability to put their acumen into practical use. Given Mr. Rodriguez' endeavor to drive his students to compete within themselves to drive towards constant improvement, and how this results in scores sometimes entire standard deviations above the global average, many former students have cleaved to the idea of his instruction having some overlap with the Krypteia (as far as the principles of self-improvement are concerned, not the brutally militaristic training). Moreover, the AP tests for history have changed several times in the years leading up to the creation of Kryptiumtutoring; once the summer before Covid, again that Spring, and reverting to its original form once a year of lockdown had been completed. Throughout those challenges Rodriguez' students have been able to succeed, and the lessons he's learned as an instructor are lessons he's keen to use to help as many students as possible.
